Common Mistakes While Driving Off-Road

common mistakes driving off road

Driving Off-Road is awesome (OK so we’re slightly biased). We are a family company that eat, sleep and breath 4×4 life. Being so entrenched in 4×4 life means we’ve seen a few off-road mistakes being made. We thought we would share with you some of the classics errors when it comes to driving off-road. It doesn’t matter what type of terrain you’re planning on being on. You’ll save yourself a heap of hassle and expense if you can avoid these three blunders. We want your off-road experience to be as awesome as possible.

There is a lot of mistakes you can make whilst driving off-road. Most of which can be avoided if you plan ahead. When it comes to driving off-road prevention is definitely better than cure. Packing the right gear and making sure your vehicle is prepared are two big ways to avoid running into trouble. Common mistakes are:

Not packing the right gear

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is not to pack the right kit. It’s easy to get carried away with the excitement of getting off-road, but not packing what you might need could cause huge expense. Forgetting something important will either do damage to your wallet or to your health. No matter what your level of experience is, ensuring you are prepared for any emergency is a good idea. Make sure you have recovery kits, spares and safety gear, as well as supplies such as plenty of food and water. The further you are going the more planning is needed for what you need to take with you.

Not having appropriate and quality gear

We’re not saying you have to spend a fortune. We’re saying you need a quality kit that you can rely on to do the job you need it to. The last thing you want is to have something happen that will leave you in trouble due to saving a buck. It’s best to buy something with a bit more quality once than to spend money replacing the same thing over and over.

Not preparing your vehicle

We’ve written about this before but we cannot stress how important it is to make sure your vehicle is prepared. Our 4×4 checklist highlights some of the key points that you need to cover to ensure you 4×4 is ready for driving off-road. It includes the tyres, brakes, engine, winch, frame and your spares kit. You may also need to think about 4×4 vehicle protection such as bull bars, nudge bars, rear bars, side steps and sidebars.

If you don’t get what we’re saying then we may have to take your cub scout badges from you. Preparation is key to a successful off-road drive. Whether it be your packing skills, the quality of your kit or ensuring your vehicle is off-road ready, TJMperth have it covered.  If you’re not sure what you need come and have a chat and we’ll point you in the right direction.
